Solyanka is a dish from Russia and is also referred to as Selyanka. It is basically a thick soup and has three variations which are meat Solyanka, fish Solyanka and mushroom Solyanka. Solyanka is prepared from meat, fish or mushrooms, pickled cucumbers, potatoes, cabbage, smetana and dill. Meat Solyanka is most popular and is often flavoured with tomatoes, onions, allspice, capers, parsley and dill. Solyanka is served hot with bread.
