Indian Drinks that are the Heart of this Country

Indian drinks have a whole fan following of its own. The variety of beverages that is available in India is really shocking.

From milk drinks, fruit teas to fermented beverages, everything is here. I assure you you can’t get bored from Indian meals and drinks.

Today, I will tell you about some of the most amazing Indian drinks. If you are from India, I am pretty sure, you’ll find them easily in your locality.

Moreover, most of them are too easy to prepare at home. In fact, you can easily prepare them with just 4 or 5 ingredients.

Lassi

Lassi is a traditional drink from India which comes in a variety of flavours. The classic lassi is prepared with curd and sugar. Kesar, fruits and rose essence is also added to enhance the flavour.

In the North part of India, lassi is one of the most popular beverages.

People often confuse it with chaas, which I will discuss next.

Chaas

Chaas is a salty, spicy lassi which is more watery. In western part of India people drink it with their meals.

During summers, this drink from India can quench your thirst. It also boosts digestion and prevents heat strokes.

Chass is flavoured with jeera, black salt and mint. Further, people also add grated ginger and asafoetida in this drink. You can easily find its pouch packs or tetra packs at Indian convenience stores.

Thandai

Thandi is one of the most popular festival drinks from India. In the festival of Holi, people often serve it to their guests.

Basically, it has almonds, rose petals, cardamom, saffron, milk and sugar. Thandai is served cold and is garnished with nuts and rose petals.

Further there are many varieties of thandai available such as kesar thandai and mango thandai.

Aam panna

Among all the traditional beverages from India, aam panna is my favourite. This tangy drink is all you need on a hot summer day.

Essentially, it is more of a health beverage but people like me drink it for its flavour.

There is spiciness of cumin and black pepper in this drink. Along with that there is mint and black salt. It is one of the best hydration drinks to try. Aam panna is my go to drink during summers.

Jal jeera

If you haven’t tried an Indian jal jeera drink then, are you under a rock??? This amazing beverage is super refreshing and spicy.

Jal jeera has cumin, salt, mango powder, coriander leaves, ginger and mint. People add other spices to add more flavour in this jeera drink.

In fact there are spice packets available that you can add in water to make instant jal jeera.

Moreover, you can also add lemon juice in it to add more tanginess.

Masala chai

In India, people love chai more than coffee. You can easily find chai cafes and places that especially serve a variety of teas.

Among all teas, Indian masala chai is quite popular. Whether you are young or old, you will love it.

Masala chai is prepared like a normal milk tea. But, spices like cinnamon, cardamom and star seed are added during the process.

In short, you can use Indian garam masala in this tea and drink it. With the goodness of spices this tea can boost your immunity.

Sharbat

Sharbat has been a part of Indian cuisine since ancient times. In the old days, people offered it to their guests and travellers.

These days, sharbat comes in variety flavours like rose, khas and nimbu. Basically, a mix of water and sugar is prepared. Then, flavour like rose syrup or lemon juice is added to get the final masterpiece.

Further, fruit sharbat like bael sharbat is also quite appealing.
Among all the sharbat, nimbu ka sharbat is a king. During summer, I prepare popsicles with it.

Shikanji

Shikanji is also known as nimbu paani and is easily available in India. This drink has water, lemon juice, salt and sugar. Some people eliminate the sugar from it to make it a completely salty beverage.

Moreover, you can easily find the soda version of this drink on Indian streets.

During street shopping, I prefer to drink shikanji as it hydrates the body. Also, who can say no to this lemony goodness?
